Varnado Hall
Northwestern State University — Natchitoches, Louisiana

Originally constructed in 1939, Varnado Hall is a historic brick residence hall on the campus of Northwestern State University. Once part of the university’s early campus as Louisiana State Normal College, the building was rehabilitated to serve as NSU’s first residential college for the creative and performing arts.

The renovated facility includes student housing, flexible performance and exhibition spaces, a recording studio, music practice rooms, and 24-hour art studios. The project complied with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation and received both State and Federal Historic Tax Credits.

The completed rehabilitation preserved Varnado Hall’s historic character while adapting the building for modern student life, creative collaboration, and campus community use.
